The Altar Story

The Altar is a story of surrender, obedience, and lives changed through saying yes to God.

Souls Saved. Hearts Surrendered. Lives Transformed.

What began on a quiet quarter-section outside Drayton Valley has grown far beyond the land - a gathering place and growing movement centred on the presence of God, the proclamation of the Gospel, and seeing Canada transformed by Jesus.

"Buy Me That, and
I'll Meet You There"

In January 2020, while driving past a beautiful quarter-section outside Drayton Valley, Steve heard the Lord speak eight simple words: "Buy Me that, and I'll meet you there."

The property wasn't for sale at the time, but Steve couldn't shake what he believed God had spoken. Eventually the opportunity came; Steve and Cara purchased the land, cleared a space in the woods, built a simple stage, and invited people to gather - not knowing if anyone would come.

More than 300 people came to that first gathering. The next drew 700. Then nearly 2,000. Eventually, more than 6,500 gathered as people worshipped, encountered Jesus, responded to the Gospel, and were baptized. What began as an act of obedience was becoming something far bigger than we ever imagined.

When the Fire Came

In May 2023, wildfire swept through The Altar property, burning intensely through the back forest and peat moss. Yet remarkably, the trees visible from the highway and those surrounding Steve’s prayer cabin, the worship stage, and the baptismal tank were miraculously spared.

What initially looked like devastation soon began revealing unexpected possibilities. The fire opened areas of the property that had previously been almost inaccessible, creating new space for the future vision of The Altar. Even the area that sustained the greatest damage turned out to be ideally located for a pond — something we now intend to build both to add beauty to the property and to provide an emergency water reservoir for future fire suppression in the region.

Rather than ending the vision, the fire expanded it. What was left behind is becoming part of what comes next — turning burned ground into new possibilities and making room for The Altar to continue growing for generations to come.

A National Movement, Built on One Purpose

Today, The Altar has grown far beyond a piece of land in Alberta. What began as a place to
gather has become a growing movement with one consuming desire: to see Jesus glorified
and people come to Him.

Prayer and Kingdom business have become two powerful wings carrying that mission
forward. Through Canadian Firewall, thousands of intercessors are covering Canada in
prayer. Through Kingdom Business Society and Dependently Wealthy, business leaders are
being challenged to place their companies, influence and resources into the hands of God.
And through The Altar's gatherings, media and evangelism, the Gospel continues to go out.
