Business by Day. The Gospel, Always.
Steve and his wife, Cara, founded Zinger Oilfield Supplies Ltd. in 2005 and have spent more than two decades building a business, raising five children, and learning what it looks like to follow God together. Today, their lives are a blend of family, business, and ministry, not separate callings competing for attention, but one life surrendered to Jesus and available for whatever He wants to do with it.
That surrender has roots going all the way back to when Steve was nineteen. At the time, he was a long-haired kid in Killam, Alberta, attending church only because his uncle made him go. For four weeks, an old cowboy evangelist named Norm Bonk preached the Gospel. Steve never walked forward at the altar, but after the fourth week, he went home and gave his life to Christ on his own.
That quiet decision became the beginning of a life shaped by saying yes to God, even when the path ahead was anything but expected.

The Y in the Road
Steve was out for a run when the Holy Spirit told him plainly to give something up that day. He answered, "I love you, Lord, but the answer is no."
He tried to bargain - listing the ground he had already given up, asking God to leave this one thing alone. Instead, God gave him a vision. A mountain: a big, blessed life, influence and favour, multitudes of souls won, prosperity. That was plan A. But before the mountain he saw a Y in the road, with a second branch running down to the flatlands of a small, barely-Christian life.
Then he heard it. "I HAD big things for you, Steve. Big things." Steve saw something like a switch thrown on a train track, and felt himself turning away from the mountain.
In horror of what he had just lost, Steve dropped to his knees in a puddle of tears, crying out, "I changed my mind! I changed my mind! Just hold on, Lord! Don't do anything rash - just back up a
second. Ask me for anything, and I’ll do it!"
On that day, July 24, 2014, everything changed. Steve no longer had permission to say no to God. Everything that came after - the books, the land, the gatherings, the prayer movement - has simply
been the overflow of a life of pursuit of and surrender to the Lord.

Steve Wasn't Looking for Land. God Was.
In January 2020, Steve was driving past a quiet quarter-section outside Drayton Valley when he heard the Lord say, “Buy Me that, and I’ll meet you there.”
Steve and Cara purchased the land, cleared a space in the woods, and began gathering people there to seek God. What started with just over 300 people grew into gatherings of more than 6,500, marked by salvations, baptisms, and lives changed.
That quarter-section became The Altar - a place set apart for prayer, worship, encounter, and equipping believers to go back out carrying what God has done in them.
